Gratitude

in confident, by Anne

I’m going through a very trying, tough period at the moment. There are lots of negative thoughts swirling around inside my head. Each time I take two steps forward I feel as though I’ve taken three big steps back. I think things are getting better but then I find out they aren’t.

I’ve been reading a lot on the Internet to help myself feel better. I came across these few paragraphs (below) on Facebook and knew I had to share them with you. They may not (strictly) have anything to do with building confidence, but are certainly a massive boost if you’re looking for one today. Make sure you read the entire thing.

gratitude

‘In everything give thanks…’ 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV

Author Barbara Johnson was frazzled; she was running late, and on the bus to work she had to stand. Her attitude was going downhill fast when a cheery voice from the front of the bus announced, ‘Beautiful day, isn’t it?’ She couldn’t see the man, but she listened to his commentary as he described the lovely scenery…this church…that park…a cemetery…a firehouse. His grateful attitude lightened the mood of everybody around him. Then as Johnson got off the bus she caught a glimpse of the speaker: an average-looking man wearing dark glasses and carrying a white stick!

Paul said, ‘In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God.’ We don’t thank God for trials, we thank Him in them. Gratitude is like a boomerang. It blesses the recipient, enables a 180-degree turn and blesses the person who gives thanks.

Whatever the crisis in your life, God is prepared for it and has made sure you are equipped to endure it. Many other people have experienced exactly what you’re going through. Some have made it through victoriously. No matter what the temptation God promised to, ‘make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.’ (1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV)

Every trial has its escape route. They are inseparable. But the devil doesn’t want you to know that. Every time you’re in the middle of a test, he insists there’s no way out. So when the devil is really on your case, piling on the pressure, that’s an indication the way of escape is close at hand. We need to do what God says, rejoice!

Remember, ‘The joy of the Lord is your strength.’ (Nehemiah8:10 NKJV) When you continue to give thanks and have His joy, it gives you strength for the journey.

    Hi Anne,

Time rolls in a cycle and whether we like it or not, good and bad phase just keeps rolling. It is better not to lose faith in God and keep struggling as long as the time doesn’t flips back again.

I hope and wish that everyone does have the strength to traverse this tough journey successfully.

That’s right, Ashutosh. Life does move in cycles. We have to take the bad with the good, but keeping our faith strong is key to getting out of the hard times with a smile on our faces.

All of our problems are just trials for us to conquer and to be better persons. God gave us challenges because he knows we are capable of dealing those. So just keep on and never let the devil win.

    Hi Anne,

    A very nice post, which reminds us that, though we can do a lot (we think so anyway) on our own, our faith in a higher power is what will help us through each day.;

During the years of 2002 -2006, was a bad time for me. I felt I had just about had it, but when I looked at the cup (with the help of a fellow cancer patient) I realized that everything is temporary and to enjoy each moment we have. God does teach and help us grow stronger in the difficult times so that we can continue seeing Him in the good times.

Prayers and positive thoughts go up for you as you manage your way through this time.

Thank you so much, Sally. I need it. I’m striving each day to remember that God is teaching me through this. It’s very difficult to accept it as teaching, but I know this is what I need to do.

Gratitude is what keeps the world a happier place. I think about how often I feel when people treat me nice so I try to do the same. Too often people think it’s too hard to hold the door open for someone or say thank you when it needs to be said. I appreciate this article and this is my third time back to your site. Thanks for everything.

  10. It’s a great post, Anne!

I believe having gratitude is important as it seemed to shift your focus on what we have and away on what is not pleasant!

I`ve recently found myself being very anxious and tensed and i kept thinkig day after day i`m falling deeper in anxiety and i was very affraid until one night i found i should only take it easy relax and look around without childish fantasies just to keep in mind that everyone of us has same fears and i should be happy just for being alive and healthy , i think i was inspired by god himself as the fears went far from me …

Thank you so much for coming by, Marty. Most of the blogs owners I visited when I was feeling well have not visited me recently (because I’ve not been around to theirs). I suppose I understand this 🙂

  23. Hey Anne,

This was a beautiful post. I was just in the middle of having my own pitty-party yesterday about something that was so small and stupid and I had to check myself and remember where God has brought me from. That always does the trick for me because whenever I think about where I’ve been and where i am now, I can’t help but give God praise because if it had not been for him, i wouldn’t be here. So the message of gratitude and scriptures you pointed out in this article rung bells all through my heart.

Thanks for sharing this article with us today Anne, i’m going to tweet it out to my followers because this is a message that everyone needs to hear. And sorry to hear you are not doing so well, I will keep you in my prayers Anne.

    Blessings,
    Mo

  24. Jitesh Patil says:

Gratitude is not the same as indebtedness. While both emotions occur following help, indebtedness occurs when a person perceives that they are under an obligation to make some repayment of compensation for the aid. The emotions lead to different actions; indebtedness can motivate the recipient of the aid to avoid the person who has helped them, whereas gratitude can motivate the recipient to seek out their benefactor and to improve their relationship with them.
